To view most of the videos on this site, you need the DIVX Codec.
You can get information about DIVX and the DIVX codec at www.divx.com.
For DIVX for Windows XP/2000 click here.
For DIVX for Mac click here.
If you're having video playback issues or have questions... let's just run thru a quick Q and A.
Q: What is DIVX and why do I need to install it?
A: Basically, DIVX is simply a video codec used for encoding video. Therefore, you must have the DIVX codec (decoder) to watch Divx format videos.
I use Divx format because it offers the best picture quality to file size ratio.
Q: What program can I use to play these videos?
A: I use Windows Media Player. Although, you can use the Divx Player, its not necessary.
Q: When I try to play the video, I only hear the audio... the video doesn't show up. What's wrong?
A: You don't have the DIVX codec installed. Install the DIVX codec that suits your operating system. (see above for appropriate links) Once you've properly installed the DIVX codec, you should be able to play the videos in Windows Media Player without any trouble.
Q: I installed the DIVX codec and I'm still having playback issues. What else should I do?
A: First, make sure you have a current version of Windows Media Player. Second, try re-installing the codec again. You might also consider re-downloading the DIVX bundle and then re-install. Ya never know when a download may be corrupt or the install may not have been clean.
If it still doesn't work, try using the Divx Player to play the videos... or, you can try using the VideoLan Player which should be able to play most any video without having to install additional codecs.
Q: What is the Divx Player? Do I need to use it?
A: I didn't even choose to install the Divx Player during my Divx install. If your Windows Media Player plays the Divx files fine, there's no reason to use it really.
Q: Can I play these videos using Quicktime?
A: On a Mac, yes, you can use Quicktime to play DIVX video files. But Quicktime for Windows does not support Divx. The Divx for Mac software is a Quicktime codec and will use Quicktime to play the Divx files.
Q: I have a MAC so I can't "Right Click" and Save Target As.
A: On the Mac, holding "Ctrl" down while clicking is equivalent to Right Clicking on a PC.
Q: Does Divx contain any spyware?
A: No it doesn't.
Q: Can I get rid of the Divx watermark that shows up during playback? How?
A: Yes, you can. In Windows XP, got to Start > All Programs > DIVX > DIVX Codec > Decoder Configuration Utility. Once you've opened the Decoder Configuration Utility, select the "Toolbar" tab. Uncheck the box next to "Show DIVX logo watermark".
Q: I still haven't resolved my playback issues. Where can I get more help resolving my problems?
A: You should check the Divx website at www.divx.com. You might specifically check the Divx FAQ for troubleshooting help.
